Advanced Sea Kayaking Course

Overview:

This course is designed to develop proficient skills and appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out on the sea in advanced conditions. As an Advanced Sea Kayaker, you will have extensive experience of paddling on the sea. Your experience will include paddling a wide variety of sea conditions with winds over force 4 and/or tides over 2 Knots, using sea kayaks in tidal or non-tidal environments, where you may make open crossings in excess of 2Nm, as well as travelling along the coastline.

Venue:       Anglesey, North Wales

Ratio:         1:4 (minimum 2 people)

Duration:  2 days (flexible)

Fee:            £170 (2 days)

Prerequisites: 

A good level of fitness

Confident in the water

Able to create a tidal plan for the days' paddling.

Able to paddle in a minimum of f4 winds, 3/4ft swell and surf, over 2 knots of current

Experience in assisting rescues in context.

More Information:

The Advanced Sea Kayaking course will help develop your skills in making key decisions to ensure you are in the right place at the right time, taking into account key factors influencing your decisions, including swell, the weather, the tide and features of the location you choose.    This course is designed to expand on the knowledge and experience of skilled paddlers and cover key aspects involved in planning trips with the safety of the group in mind.  You will learn what communication strategies are best used throughout the trip and in case of an incident, how can we protect ourselves and others.  

The course will expand your skills in making appropriate judgements when determining which environmental features are a help or a hazard and help you understand how to utilise or avoid them and much more.  The course is ideal for paddlers who want to progress to the Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Award.
